ID Experts, a data breach prevention and remediation firm based in Beaverton, Ore., commissioned the study, conducted by HIMSS Analytics, the research arm of the Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, according to the report. HIMSS Analytics interviewed 150 senior hospital IT executives and 26 business organizations over the phone from September through October.
Most of the business associates were unaware that their hospital partners would be increasing oversight, but 47 percent of hospital executives said contracts would be terminated if business associated violated HIPAA regulations, according to the report.
Most of the hospital surveyed had reported at least one breach in the past year, and most hospitals have changed their plans to prevent future breaches.
