Stryker said it has contained a cybersecurity incident that disrupted its operations earlier this month and is continuing to restore affected systems, though some customers are still facing delays.
The medical technology company disclosed in a March 19 update on its website that it is prioritizing the restoration of systems tied to customer ordering and shipping as recovery efforts continue. Teams are working “around the clock” with external partners, the company said.
The disruption began March 11, when Stryker detected a cyberattack that led to a global operational impact. The company said it activated its incident response plan and launched an investigation with the help of outside cybersecurity experts.
Stryker said it has been coordinating with federal agencies, including the White House National Cyber Director, the FBI, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center. The company also cited government efforts to seize domains linked to the suspected threat actors.
Despite progress toward containment, some downstream effects remain. Customers using personalized implants have experienced disruptions, and certain patient-specific procedures scheduled for the week of March 16 were postponed because of shipping delays, the company said.
Stryker said the incident did not compromise the safety or functionality of its products. Its portfolio — including navigation systems, imaging systems and related applications — remains safe to use and was not affected by the attack.
The company also said specific tools, such as its Balance ACS Assure application, were not affected and do not exchange data with the affected internal environment.
Stryker said it is continuing efforts to reconcile orders, manufacture products and deliver them to customers as it works to fully restore operations and limit disruptions to patient care.
