Four things to know:
- Army Gen. Paul Nakasone, director of the National Security Agency, said ransomware attacks will remain a threat for years.
- Mr. Nakasone was asked at a cybersecurity conference if ransomware would still be a daily occurence in five years.
“Every single day,” he said.
- Ransomware attacks have increased 300 percent since last year, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in September, the Journal reported
- The White House is assembling 30 countries to meet in October to collaborate on a global strategy aimed at addressing the threat ransomware poses to economic and national security. The alliance’s first meeting will take place virtually and is part of a recurring effort to cut off revenue for ransomware groups and pinpoint ways to prosecute them.
