Patient info accessed in Texas hospital data breach 

A Texas medical center has reported a cybersecurity incident in which patients’ personal and medical information was accessed.

Del Rio-based Val Verde Regional Medical Center said the March 10 security breach may have exposed such data as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, provider names, patient account numbers and medical record numbers.

The medical center began notifying affected individuals May 24 and is offering free identity monitoring and recovery services. The medical center’s statement did not say how many patients were affected.
