Consumer credit reporting agency Equifax is notifying 143 million customers after discovering cybercriminals gained access to its files through a website application vulnerability, potentially compromising customer financial data.

Two computers at the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services' Office of Children's Services were infected with a Trojan horse virus July 5 and July 8, according to a Sept. 1 breach notification.

Roger Severino, director of HHS' Office for Civil Rights, said a top priority for the agency is finding a "big, juicy, egregious" breach to use as an example for others, according to GovInfoSecurity.
