The billing company, Pulse Systems, issued the notice in September. Patients received bills with other patients’ information on them due to an error on statements sent after July 27. Exposed information included patient names and procedure information.
HHS’ breach report said 722 patients were affected by the billing mixup. While some of those affected received care at Lincoln Pulmonary & Critical Care, it is not clear if all affected people visited the center.
Pulse Systems took steps to resolve the issue and updated its technology to ensure the mistake doesn’t happen again, the company said in a notice published in the Journal Star.
