Aaron Lockner, 35, of Downers Grove, Ill., was charged with one count of intentionally causing damage to a protected computer, the U.S. Justice Department said.
In April 2018, Mr. Lockner illegally accessed the server of a healthcare company that operated a clinic in Oak Lawn, Ill., where he had previously been an IT and security contractor, according to the May 24 indictment. He had access to the firm’s computer network and had been denied employment with the company two months before the cyberattack, the indictment alleges.
The hacking incident allegedly imparied the medical examinations, treatment and care of several individuals.
The charge against Mr. Lockner is punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison.
