Robotic surgery company Intuitive said it was the victim of a phishing incident that allowed a hacker to access internal applications, but that hospitals are not affected.
Intuitive’s da Vinci, Ion and digital platforms were not impacted and remain safe and operational, the company said in a March notice.
“Intuitive’s network infrastructure is segmented. The networks and infrastructure that support our internal IT business applications, our manufacturing operations, and our da Vinci and Ion platforms and digital products are separate,” the firm stated. “Hospital customer networks remain separate from Intuitive networks and are secured and managed by customers’ IT teams; therefore, they are also unaffected.”
The breached files included some customer business and contact information and Intuitive employee and corporate data, the company said.
The incident comes as medtech company Stryker has also been dealing with a cyberattack that affected its internal systems. An Iran-linked cybercriminal group reportedly claimed responsibility for that hack.
An Intuitive spokesperson told Becker’s the notice was posted March 12 and that is the latest update.
