Hackers accessed 67,000 files at Starkville, Miss.-based OCH Regional Medical Center after gaining access to its network, the hospital said.
The unauthorized individuals breached the network Sept. 6, 2023, before the hospital discovered the incident Sept. 14, 2023, and cut off their access, according to the April 18 notice.
“Protecting the privacy and security of patient information remains a top priority at OCH Regional Medical Center,” the hospital said in the statement. “Steps have been taken to strengthen internal systems, improve security protocols and prevent future incidents.”
The breached patient data may have included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, diagnoses, and insurance information. The hospital reported to HHS in March that 51,266 individuals were affected.
