Federal prosecutors have filed more charges against a California man accused of stealing the data of 1.3 million patients of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger.

Max Vance now faces two counts of giving false statements to federal agents, according to a Feb. 3 grand jury indictment in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania reviewed by Becker’s. He is in jail awaiting trial on a previous charge of obtaining information from a protected computer.

The government alleges that Mr. Vance, who is representing himself in the case, downloaded the patient data onto his personal laptop while working for Microsoft subsidiary Nuance Communications in 2023. Geisinger and Nuance have agreed to a $5 million class-action settlement over the incident.
