Nacogdoches (Texas) Memorial Hospital has begun notifying patients whose data may have been breached in a January cyberattack.
The 161-bed hospital became aware of the incident Jan. 31, after a hacker compromised its computer network and information systems, according to a March 31 notice posted on its website. The organization said it immediately contacted law enforcement and investigated, while implementing an incident response plan.
The breached data may have included patients’ contact information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, medical record and health plan numbers, and photographs. The hospital said it is not aware of any data misuse.
Nacogdoches Memorial also reported it took “remediation measures to prevent recurrence,” including strengthening network security, implementing additional awareness training, and updating procedures.
The incident affected an estimated 257,073 individuals, according to a notice filed March 31 with the Office of the Maine Attorney General.
