New York City-based Columbia University Irving Medical Center has agreed to a $600,000 settlement over a data breach.
Plaintiffs sued the academic medical center in 2024, alleging the organization failed to protect their personally identifiable and protected health information after it was exposed during a cybersecurity incident between September 2023 and March 2024.
A judge preliminarily approved the settlement in July with a final approval hearing set for Dec. 5. Patients have until Oct. 27 to object to or exclude themselves from the settlement, and till Nov. 25 to submit a claim. Columbia University Irving Medical Center has denied any wrongdoing.
