Anderson, S.C.-based AnMed restored MyChart access Aug. 12 for patients with an active account and a mobile number on file, 17 days after a cyber incident disrupted the health system’s IT network.
Patients logging in now receive a text message containing a one-time code to verify their identity before regaining access. AnMed said patients do not need to click any links or share personal information beyond entering the code. Not all MyChart features are available yet.
AnMed also restored patients’ ability to call their doctors’ offices and other departments directly during regular business hours. The update builds on progress announced Aug. 11, when AnMed’s care teams regained full read and write access to patients’ electronic health records.
AnMed first disclosed the cybersecurity incident July 26, when malware knocked out phones, internet and computer systems and forced the closure of dozens of physician offices and imaging locations across its South Carolina and Georgia network. AnMed said its investigation remains ongoing and it will share additional updates as they become available.
