This initiative aims to broaden EHR use while decreasing health inequalities among minority populations, the release said.
Quest Diagnostics and its subsidiary, MedPlus, will donate approximately 75 EHR licenses, subscription fees included, for 12 months and will help incorporate all necessary health IT into the physicians’ practices, totaling around 85 percent of all costs.
In order for a healthcare provider to participate in the OMH’s initiative, five requirements must be met:
• Practice in a Medically Underserved Area or Health Provider Shortage Area, as designated by HHS.
• Use an electronic billing system and have an Internet connection.
• Be a small practice group of one to five providers or a Federally Qualified Health Center within a MUA or PSA.
• Able to receive meaningful use incentives per the HITECH Act.
• Submit monthly reports in addition to completing the initial application.
