Glassdoor, a job review website, analyzed more than 505,000 salaries shared by employees on their website. After statistically controlling for differences between jobs and workers like age, education, job title and location, the study found a pay gap of 28.3 percent between male and female computer programmers.
This pay gap is five times larger than the average “adjusted” pay gap of 5.4 percent, according to the study.
On an industry level, healthcare and insurance are tied for having the highest gender pay gap at 7.2 percent, which translates into women earning an average of 93 cents per dollar earned by men. Information technology ranks No. 10, with a pay gap of 5.9 percent.
