In 2014, CMS paid the lowest total payments to hospitals and professionals for meeting meaningful use, with total payments of approximately $3 billion. The highest payment year was 2013, when CMS paid approximately $9.5 billion. In 2012, CMS paid approximately $9.8 billion, and in 2011 paid approximately $5.4 billion.
To date, CMS has paid Medicare eligible professionals approximately $6.8 billion, Medicaid eligible professionals $3.4 billion and eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals $17.4 billion.
