According to the American Hospital Association, the new codes are being added now because there was a freeze on updates to ICD-10 codes before the Oct. 1 implementation date.

The new procedure coding system codes are available on CMS’ website, and the new diagnosis codes will be included in the hospital inpatient prospective payment system proposed rule for fiscal year 2017, which is expected to be released next month.
