Kris Gale is stepping down as chief technology officer of Clover Health, an insurance startup that uses technology and data to improve preventive healthcare, according to Bloomberg.
Mr. Gale, who didn't disclose the reason for his departure, helped found Clover with Vivek Garipalli in 2014. It handles health insurance claims and benefits for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries — the U.S. pays the company a certain amount per customer and then Clover administers the plan's benefits to patients. It relies on data science to find preventive care strategies to deploy funds effectively. Clover is available in 15 counties in New Jersey, but the company plans to expand to parts of Georgia, Texas and Pennsylvania.
Mr. Gale will remain at Clover as an adviser. "His vision for our technology platform is well underway, and is managed by an experienced and growing team," Mr. Garipalli said of his colleague. "For that reason, he felt this was an opportune time to shift from a full-time role into an advisory role and to focus on other areas of his life."
The resignation follows a recent investment which valued the company at more than $1 billion.
