CIOs focusing on talent for 2023

CIOs at top firms are prioritizing retaining and hiring new IT talent in 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported Dec. 27.

While tech job postings from employers hit a two-year low in November, some CIOs are still looking to hire for specialty roles, such as cybersecurity.

Mass tech layoffs flooded the job market with tech workers and provided more established firms the opportunity to hire recently laid-off employees from startups and other more volatile sectors, the report said.

For some CIOs, continued hiring allows them to build IT skills in house and rely less on vendors.

"It helps you go faster and cheaper on a lot of things," Eli Lilly CIO Diogo Rau told the Journal. "I don't believe vendor management is really the skill that a young college grad is desiring to get."
