CIO Joel Vengco: A leader driving IT partnerships

As vice president and CIO of Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health, Mr. Vengco oversees the technology, vision, strategy and operations of four hospitals, more than 80 medical practices and a health plan.

In his two years and six months with Baystate Health, Mr. Vengco founded and launched TechSpring, Baystate Health's technology innovation center. The center allows participants to work directly with Baystate providers and partners on projects aimed to fulfill unmet needs in the healthcare environment.

Mr. Vengco is also a senior fellow at the Boston University Health Policy Institute, a lecturer at Boston University's School Medicine, Boston University's School of Management and Harvard University.

Before joining Baystate, Mr. Vengco was vice president and general manager of GE Healthcare IT's eHealth business. He also was director of IT and chief applications officer of Boston Medical Center.
