Chinese officials urge US to strengthen ties with Beijing for the sake of cybersecurity

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management data breach of 2015 affected approximately 21.5 million people. The incident was suspected to be a state-sponsored attack by China, though it was determined Chinese citizens rather than state-sponsored hackers were responsible, according to The Washington Times. Now, Chinese officials are asking FBI Director James Comey to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Chinese State Councilor Guo Shengkun met with Mr. Comey this week in Beijing and called for China and the United States to work together on cybersecurity and counterterrorism issues.

Mr. Comey said stakeholders in Washington would be willing to strengthen communication and law enforcement cooperation with Beijing, according to the report.
