The Center for Children’s Digestive Health is a small healthcare provider with a pediatric subspecialty practice that operates in seven clinic locations in Illinois. HHS’ Office for Civil Rights began a compliance review of the center in August 2015, following an investigation into one of the center’s business associates, FileFax.
FileFax stored records for the Center for Children’s Digestive Health, some of which contained protected health information. Although the center began storing records with Filefax in 2003, neither party could produce a signed business associate agreement prior to Oct. 12, 2015.
