Catalent strikes deal to acquire contract services company for $475M

Pharmaceutical services company Catalent has reached a deal to acquire contract development and manufacturing company Metrics Contract Services from Mayne Pharma for $475 million.

Catalent is hoping that the acquisition will strengthen its manufacturing and packaging capabilities, it said in an Aug. 9 news release. The acquisition of Metrics would bring Metrics' Greenville, N.C.-based facility into the Catalent network.

"The experienced team and consistently improved, state-of-the-art facility in Greenville will provide Catalent's customers with immediate, fit-for-scale capacity for in-demand highly potent drugs and other oral solid small-to-midsize batch needs. This capacity is particularly important for customers with research and development pipelines featuring accelerated, orphan and rare disease programs for oncology and other important therapeutic areas," said Aris Gennadios, PhD, group president of Catalent's pharma and consumer health segment.

All 400 Metrics employees would join the Catalent team as part of the deal, expected to close before the end of the year, pending customary closing conditions, according to the news release.
