The HealthMap project, launched at Boston Children’s in 2006, aggregates data from sources like the World Health Organization and Google News to track outbreaks and other epidemiological events around the globe.

The researchers will use the Twitter data to focus on tracking foodborne and gastrointestinal illnesses in near-real time.
