BCBS venture arm leads $20M funding for digital health management startup

Wellframe, a digital health platform facilitating the exchange of data and clinical recommendations between patients and their care teams, announced Nov. 19 the close of a $20 million Series C funding round led by BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners.

The startup's Digital Care Management solution delivers evidence-based, interactive clinical programs and information to Wellframe app users in the form of a daily checklist. The health information they provide is automatically shared with care teams, including health plans and providers; additionally, algorithms embedded in the care team dashboard analyze this data to alert the team to potential opportunities for early interventions.

The funding will allow Wellframe to expand operations and accelerate the launch of its newest tool, Digital Health Advocate, which adds administrative, financial and healthcare system navigation to Wellframe's existing patient support tools.

BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners comprises three investment funds totaling $575 million in commitments from 33 BCBS entities across the U.S. Other digital health startups in its portfolio include Phreesia, Healthify, Verata Health and more.
