On average, the base salary of CIOs and other senior healthcare IT executives was $235,806 in 2018, with women earning $30,000 more than their male counterparts, according to a College of Healthcare Information Management Executives survey.
CHIME surveyed 266 members in late 2018, asking them multiple choice questions about demographics, job structure, organization type, base salary and benefits, job satisfaction and more.
Here are six things to know:
1. Women on average earned $257,340 annually while men averaged $228,217.
2. Of the respondents, 18 percent said they received no increase in their salary for 2018.
3. Around 75 percent of CIOs and health IT executives said they were very satisfied or satisfied with their current job.
4. Of the executives who reported to be very satisfied with their total compensation, they eared more than $300,000 annually. Executives who said they were unsatisfied had an average salary of $168,857.
5. Approximately 6 percent of respondents said they have a medical degree and earned 60 percent more than their counterparts with master's degrees.
6. Executives at facilities with one to 25 beds reported an average salary of $136,183, while executives at facilities with 400 to 699 beds reported an average salary of $299,302.
