athenahealth posts 21% revenue increase, profit turnaround in Q2

The past three months carried significant growth for Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth, which announced a 21 percent increase in total revenue for the three months ended June 30.

For Q2 2015, athenahealth's total revenue reached $224.7 million, up from $185.9 million during the same period last year.

Additionally, athenahealth's total revenue for the six months ended June 30 was $431.1 million, a 24 percent increase from $349.0 million during the same time period last year.

The cloud-based EHR and practice management vendor also posted a $9.3 million net profit in Q2 2015, a turnaround from the $2.2 million loss during the same period last year. For the first six months of 2015, athenahealth's net profit equaled $517,000, up from a $10.2 million loss the year prior.

"This quarter, we made marked progress across a number of priorities including our work to master the EHR user experience, advance care team coordination, and introduce new innovations across our network," said athenahealth Founder and CEO Jonathan Bush. "While we have much more to accomplish, our trajectory toward becoming greater and bigger, as well as delivering value that is greater and bigger is established and improving the way healthcare works in this country."
