To keep clinicians abreast of new clinical guidelines, athenahealth is launching a series of “Network Medicine” health campaigns.

In an effort to decrease inadvertent outdated treatments or medical errors, these campaigns will use athenahealth’s national cloud network to identify providers treating patients who have a high likelihood of being impacted by recent clinical guidance.

The initial rollout includes campaigns with the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists to prevent medication safety risks during pregnancy and with the American College of Cardiology to adjust cholesterol treatment for cardiovascular patients.

“Medicine grows more complex each day, and it’s incredibly difficult for clinicians to stay current on medical innovation, new research and therapeutic interventions,” said Jonathan Bush, CEO of athenahealth. “Technology must help connect clinical staff to better information without bogging them down.”
