In its App Store Review Guidelines, Apple outlined the following:
- Health apps “may not use or disclose to third parties data gathered in the health, fitness and medical research context” for advertising or health research purposes.
- The apps cannot “write false or inaccurate data into HealthKit.”
- Health apps can’t store individuals’ health information in iCloud.
- Apps that conduct health-related research must obtain consent from participants and must be approved by an independent ethics review board.
- Marijuana-related apps will not be allowed.
- Apps that calculate drug dosage must come directly from the manufacturer, a health insurance company, a university or a hospital.
- Apps that provide inaccurate data that may be used to diagnose patients will face increased scrutiny.
- Health apps that encourage individuals to put their iPhone under their pillow while it’s charging will not be allowed.
Moreover, Apple claimed that if the “app behaves in a way that risks physical harm, we will reject it,” reports Fast Company.
