Apple's latest update includes HIPAA compliance for watch, AirStrip

On Sept. 9, Apple held its latest event revealing an array of new products and updates to existing ones. Alongside a new phone and pencil stylus, Apple announced an update to the Apple Watch — one that gives a nod to HIPAA rules and regulations, according to a Slate article.

Apple introduced a new app called AirStrip, a third-party patient monitoring app. AirStrip receives and can send vital information from users to their providers, potentially allowing for real-time updates.

The Apple Watch already offers a HIPAA-compliant secure messaging app for patients to communicate with providers, according to the article. Now, the inclusion of AirStrip builds upon that offering, according to the report.
