AMIA recognizes 5 signature award winners

The American Medical Informatics Association will honor its 2018 Signature Award recipients at the AMIA 2018 Annual Symposium, Nov. 3 to 7, in San Francisco.

The signature awards program recognizes AMIA members for “significant contributions to the field of informatics.”

The signature award winners are:

• Donald A.B. Lindberg Award for Innovation in Informatics: J. Marc Overhage, MD, PhD, chief medical informatics officer at Cerner Corp.
• Don Eugene Detmer Award for Health Policy Contribution in Informatics: Julia Adler-Milstein, PhD, associate professor and director at UC San Francisco School of Medicine
• William W. Stead Award for Thought Leadership in Informatics: George Hripcsak, MD, professor and chair of the department of biomedical informatics at Columbia University in New York City
• Virginia K. Saba Informatics Award: Bonnie Westra, PhD, RN, associate professor at University of Minnesota School of Nursing in Minneapolis
• New Investigator Award: Jeremy Warner, MD, assistant professor at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
