American Well to acquire telehealth company Avizia

American Well entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Avizia in a transaction officials expect to close during the second quarter of 2018.

Avizia, a systemwide telehealth provider focused on acute care, currently works with 1,300-plus hospitals across 38 countries. Under the agreement, American Well will create a combined enterprise telehealth platform to serve patients in the hospital and home care settings for urgent care, acute care, post-acute care and chronic disease management.

American Well's acquisition of Avizia will also include the company's hospital-based cart lineup and software workflow solutions for more than 40 clinical specialties, including stroke care and behavioral health.
