Online Care Group, one of American Well’s clinical partners, rolled out telehealth visits in Texas June 2.

The go-live follows Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s signing of Senate Bill 1107 May 27, which expanded patients’ access to video telemedicine services throughout the state. The bill added “video” to the state’s definition of telemedicine and removed a requirement asking patients to establish an in-person relationship with their provider before receiving telemedicine services.

“We are thrilled the bill has passed and we can now bring safe and effective telehealth to patients in Texas,” said Roy Schoenberg, MD, CEO of American Well. “We’ve worked side-by-side with the Texas Medical Board, key industry groups, academic medical centers and legislators to embrace telehealth that allows medical professionals to uphold the same standards of care patients should expect from in-person care.”
