AWS said its HIPAA-eligible services enable HIPAA-covered entities and their business associates to use the company’s cloud environment to securely process and store protected health information. AWS already offers a number of artificial intelligence tools as HIPAA eligible, such as Amazon Polly, Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Rekognition.
The three new tools — Amazon Translate, Amazon Transcribe and Amazon Comprehend — all use machine learning, a type of AI in which a computer learns over time, rather than having to be programmed like typical software. The tools include capabilities like speech-to-text and language translations.
“The addition of Amazon Translate, Amazon Transcribe and Amazon Comprehend to the list of HIPAA-eligible services will allow customers to leverage these AWS [machine learning] services to better streamline customer support and improve patient engagement,” reads an Amazon blog post announcing the additions.
