Scripps partners with Nvidia to apply AI to genomic, digital sensor data

La Jolla, Calif.-based Scripps Research Translational Institute is partnering with technology company Nvidia to apply artificial intelligence to data from genomics and digital medical sensors.

Eric Topol, MD, director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute, will lead the collaboration. The partnership will focus on developing methods to process and analyze genomic and sensor data using deep learning, a type of AI that learns over time by extracting patterns from a data set.

One of the partnership's first projects will focus on using genomic and sensor data to predict atrial fibrillation. Down the line, the researchers will work on using deep learning to support disease prevention and acceleration of biomedical research.

"With Nvidia, we aim to establish a center of excellence for artificial intelligence in genomics and digital sensors, with the ultimate goal of developing best practices, tools and AI infrastructure for broader adoption and application by the biomedical research community," Dr. Topol said in a news release.
