Alphabet's Q2 revenue up 16% as Google deepens healthcare ties: 5 notes

Google's parent company, Alphabet, reported 16 percent revenue growth in the second quarter as it continues to focus on consumer health and partnerships with major health systems.

The tech giant announced plans to partner with the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center as an ambassador in late July to share its intelligence, best practices and experts in the healthcare sector.

On the health system level, Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, N.Y., selected Google as its preferred cloud provider earlier this month. Northwell will leverage Google's artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities for predictive clinical insights, digital scheduling, automated payer interactions and intelligent visit summaries.

Five things to know about Alphabet's second-quarter report:

1. Alphabet's revenue hit $69.7 billion for the second quarter of 2022 and $137.7 billion for the first half of the year. The company's revenue is up 17.5 percent year over year so far.

2. Operating income hit $19.5 billion, flat compared to the same quarter last year. Alphabet's operating margin was 28 percent for the quarter.

3. Net income dropped 13.6 percent year over year in the second quarter, reaching $16 billion.

4. Google Cloud revenue was $6.3 billion for the second quarter, up 35.6 percent year over year.

5. Google increased the number of employees in the last year nearly 21 percent to 174,014 by the end of the second quarter. Alphabet plans to slow hiring for the rest of the year, according to CEO Sundar Pichai.
