Alaska orthopedic group notifies patients of data sent to employee's personal email

Anchorage-based Alaska Orthopedic Specialists has reported a data breach stemming from a former non-physician employee who sent themselves electronic copies of patient information to a personal email address.

In the course of closing the practice in March 2015, AOS discovered the breach and has since taken steps to secure and return all of the information, according to a Jan. 22 statement. AOS says there is no evidence the information has been used or shared.
