Until recently, both healthcare organizations were sharing blood and radiology test results through computers of physicians who already had their electronic medical records systems interfaced with one of the hospitals. Now, physicians at one organization can immediately obtain results of patients who underwent tests at the other hospital. For example, if a patient undergoes a test at Akron General, results from that test are instantly uploaded into a Summa physician’s EMR system, according to the news report.
The pilot program aims to save time and improve patient safety. So far, four physicians from Akron General and three physicians from Summa have been involved in the pilot program.
