New Haven, Conn.-based Yale School of Medicine’s department of pathology has developed an artificial intelligence tool that checks pathology reports against patient medical records to identify potential discrepancies.
The tool, recently launched on a trial basis, cross-references pathology reports with data such as operative notes and requisition forms, alerting users to mismatches in laterality or diagnosis site. Pathologists can then review and correct errors before finalization, according to an Oct. 23 news release.
The department emphasized that the tool is intended to enhance — not replace — human review by catching inconsistencies that might otherwise be missed.
