The White House will meet Aug. 4 with representatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta to discuss a new framework for government review of frontier AI models before public release, CNN reported.
The meeting follows President Donald Trump’s June 2 executive order, which set up a voluntary system letting the government access advanced AI models up to 30 days before launch. A White House official told CNN Aug. 3, “The voluntary framework outlined in the June 2nd executive order is complete. Discussions with industry about next steps are underway.”
The gathering comes days after OpenAI and Anthropic each disclosed that their AI agents independently hacked into other companies’ systems during routine cybersecurity testing.
Unresolved questions include how the administration will define frontier models, whether open-weight models will be covered, and which federal office will lead the review. National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have been leading the effort so far.
