University of Toledo Health in Ohio is expanding use of an ambient AI clinical documentation tool within its Epic EHR following a pilot.
After an eight-week evaluation, the health system reported a 29% reduction in time to chart closure and a decrease in documentation backlog — from more than 400 open charts to fewer than 30 in some departments, according to a March 31 news release. The tool, developed by Nabla, integrates with Epic and is being rolled out to physicians and advanced practice providers, according to a March 31 news release from Nabla.
Health system leaders said the tool improved documentation completeness and coding specificity, which supported billing accuracy for higher-acuity visits and affected revenue cycle performance, the release said.
Informatics leaders at the health system said the technology was refined through feedback from clinicians and developers and is being used to support documentation workflows.
