West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health has become the first health system to sign on to Mayo Clinic’s new AI and digital transformation program.
The Rochester, Minn.-based academic medical center launched Mayo Clinic Platform_Insights on Nov. 3, offering its AI expertise to other health systems.
“We look forward to collaborating with Mayo Clinic to enhance the expert care and exceptional experience we offer close to home,” UnityPoint Health President and CEO Scott Kizer said in a Nov. 19 news release.
Under the deal, the 35-hospital system will gain access to AI solutions developed or qualified by Mayo Clinic Platform, the organization’s digital innovation arm, as well as clinical decision support tools, patient and provider education, and digital transformation guidance.
As part of the offering, Mayo embeds its insights, algorithms and decision-support capabilities into a “technology container” that sits alongside a partner system’s EHR, allowing organizations to deploy advanced healthcare AI in a matter of weeks or months.
“It takes three years to go from idea to a pilot project to implementing a new product in healthcare, whether it be clinical decision-making tools or patient monitoring tools, etc.,” Mayo Clinic Platform COO Maneesh Goyal told Becker’s. “Our goal is to shrink that.”
