President Donald Trump has unveiled an AI project to boost scientific discovery and the nation’s “health security.”
President Trump signed an executive order Nov. 24 launching the Genesis Mission, which directs the secretary of energy, assistant to the president for science and technology, and special adviser for AI and crypto to collaborate with the private sector and academia to better harness AI as a scientific tool through improved data use and computing power.
The “priority areas of focus include the greatest scientific challenges of our time that can dramatically improve our nation’s national, economic, and health security, including biotechnology, critical materials, nuclear fission and fusion energy, space exploration, quantum information science, and semiconductors and microelectronics,” the White House wrote in a news release.
President Trump has previously issued executive orders rolling back regulations on AI and expanding AI use in pediatric cancer research and care.
