OpenAI is exploring whether to expand into consumer health applications, Seeking Alpha reported Nov. 10.
The company, best known for creating ChatGPT, is discussing products such as a generative AI-powered personal health assistant and a health data aggregator, according to Business Insider, which cited people familiar with the matter.
The potential move would mark OpenAI’s effort to broaden its business beyond its widely used chatbot. Nate Gross, MD, co-founder of Doximity and a recent OpenAI hire, said at the HLTH conference in October that many of ChatGPT’s 800 million weekly users turn to the app for medical advice. Dr. Gross joined the company alongside former Instagram executive Ashley Alexander.
Major tech firms including Apple, Google and Amazon have also made inroads into consumer health.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to Seeking Alpha’s request for comment.
