Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health has rolled out an AI-powered virtual assistant, Aubrey.
The assistant is designed to guide patients through the surgical process, according to a June 4 news release. Once a procedure is scheduled, eligible patients can receive text messages from Aubrey and chat with the assistant about care information, including reminders about presurgical fasting and medication instructions, day-of-procedure logistics and early concern flagging for care team follow-up.
The health system is piloting the tool in partnership with Qventus.
Novant Health described Aubrey as a human-in-the-loop system built in a HIPAA-compliant environment. The tool is free and optional for patients and is not intended for emergency situations.
