Here’s a look at health systems leading the way in testing new tools and forming first-of-their-kind collaborations:
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has become the first organization to pilot Epic’s new phenotyping AI tool. The tool automatically scans years of patient notes to identify discrete phenotypes — or observable traits — that can help clinicians reach diagnoses more quickly and recommend more targeted treatments.
- On Oct. 9, health systems across Louisiana joined forces to launch MyChart Central, giving patients a single, password-free login across multiple health systems. The coordinated activation marked the first statewide rollout of MyChart Central in the nation.
- Tampa, Fla.-based Moffitt Cancer Center, which recently launched AccelerOnco Studio, the first venture studio in the U.S. dedicated to oncology innovation. The initiative leverages insights from Moffitt’s own intellectual property — and eventually other health systems’ — to develop scalable solutions for unmet clinical needs.
- York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health deepened its collaboration with General Catalyst’s Health Assurance Transformation Company, becoming its first “transformation partner” to advance the use of AI in healthcare. The partnership targets three areas — automating administrative tasks, personalizing treatment, and improving financial sustainability — with the potential to reclaim more than 400,000 clinical hours annually.
- Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine was the first health system to integrate David, a generative AI clinical co-pilot developed by Tempus, into its electronic health record platform.
- Miami-based Mount Sinai Medical Center was among the first health systems to deploy Epic’s new Spanish-language Augmented Response Technology (ART) tool, which uses generative AI to analyze patient messages in MyChart and draft suggested replies for clinicians. The initiative aims to improve communication and access for Mount Sinai’s large Spanish-speaking patient population.
