Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare and K Health have jointly launched PatientGPT, a 24/7 clinical AI assistant that integrates with the health system’s EHR and care team.
Unlike consumer AI tools, PatientGPT is embedded within Hartford HealthCare’s infrastructure and can access patient medical histories to provide personalized education, answer basic health questions, flag medication interactions and route users to in-person or virtual care, according to a March 26 news release from the organizations. The tool is now available in beta to a limited number of patients ages 18 and older in Connecticut.
According to K Health, the platform is powered by a multi-agent system that has been in development for nearly a decade and includes safety controls, clinical guardrails and oversight by licensed providers. It does not diagnose or prescribe care and is designed to escalate cases to clinicians when appropriate.
The platform is accessible via Hartford HealthCare’s app and patient portal. Clinicians will receive summaries of AI chat interactions in advance of appointments to streamline documentation and preserve clinical decision time, the organizations said.
