Jeff Leek, vice president and chief data officer at Seattle-based Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, has been named to the 2025 Time100 AI list for his role in advancing AI in cancer research.
Time revealed its third annual Time100 AI list on Aug. 28, recognizing the 100 most influential people in artificial intelligence.
Mr. Leek spearheaded the Cancer AI Alliance, a partnership launched in October 2024 that brings together leading cancer centers — including Fred Hutchinson, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine — with major technology partners such as AWS, Google, Deloitte, Microsoft, Nvidia, the Allen Institute for AI, and Slalom Consulting.
The alliance is designed to accelerate cancer discoveries by applying federated AI learning models to anonymize patient data across institutions. This approach allows researchers to benefit from one another’s datasets without directly sharing sensitive information, helping sidestep legal barriers that often slow research.
Less than a year after its launch, the initiative has attracted interest from dozens of additional cancer centers across the country.
