Cleveland Clinic pilots AI tool for valve procedures

Cleveland Clinic has partnered with DASI Simulations to validate the company’s Precision TAVI tool for planning transcatheter aortic valve replacements to develop a second-generation version.

The tool generates predictive 3D simulations, allowing physicians to assess valve sizing, anatomy and procedural risks before TAVR, according to a March 24 news release. Cleveland Clinic is using the software alongside standard practices to evaluate its clinical utility in a high-volume center, a process expected to last six months to a year.

The project aims to expand the tool’s application from planning to execution, Samir Kapadia, MD, chair of cardiovascular medicine at Cleveland Clinic, said in the release. The simulations have already informed patient care decisions and is now being used in all TAVR planning cases at the institution.

The tool received FDA clearance in 2023 and has a CMS reimbursement code for use in TAVR planning. While the collaboration currently focuses on the aortic valve, future iterations may extend to mitral and tricuspid procedures, the release said.
