Anthropic’s valuation hit $965 billion in May after raising $65 billion in Series H funding, and now the AI company is making plans to go public.
Five things to know:
1. Anthropic submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the proposed IPO, which depends on market conditions and other factors. Anthropic hasn’t set a price per share or released the number shares to be offered.
2. Anthropic is in heated competition with OpenAI for market share and dominance. The New York Times reported OpenAI is preparing to similarly file for an IPO in the near term after Anthropic exceeded its market valuation in May. OpenAI’s most recent valuation was $730 billion.
3. Anthropic’s CFO said the recently raised Series H funds will help the company meet “historic demand” and stay at the forefront of research and development. The company reported its run-rate revenue surpassed $47 billion last month and it is directing capital toward safety and interpretability as well as expanding compute capacity.
4. Both Anthropic and OpenAI targeted the healthcare market with specific offerings to support healthcare research and workers. Claude for Healthcare, released in January, includes HIPAA-compliant tools to support prior authorization requests and coordinate other administrative tasks with the security needed in healthcare.
Claude connects with CMS’ coverage database and the National Provider Identifier Registry for additional capabilities. Patients also have the option to securely upload lab results and medical records to Claude, which will then explain results, identify patterns and prep questions for physician appointments.
5. The day after filing the S-1 form, Anthropic announced plans to expand its cybersecurity efforts in Project Glasswing. Anthropic sent its Claude Mythos Preview to 50 companies in April to scan codebases for vulnerabilities in an effort that identified more than 10,000 high- or critical-severity security flaws, according to a news release. Anthropic is now expanding partnership to around 150 new organizations in 15 countries, many of which provide critical infrastructure for other companies.
